A Letter of Support for Joe
It is my sincere hope that in some small way, this letter contributes to the health and happiness of Joe H
Not long ago my forever friend asked for an o-fficial letter of recommendation to support her husband’s application for citizenship.
As a US Citizen, as a friend, and as an advocate for reinvention; happy to. 🫡
I am tickled with how it came out. As a creative writer, having to follow a set of criteria (e.g., place of birth) is an unlikely place to have fun and have the honor of writing a love letter to a friend, saying wonderful things that I also mean. xo Rebecca

LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR Joe H
STATE OF Maryland
COUNTY OF Frederick
The undersigned affiant, Rebecca Layton Gunter, being first duly sworn, under oath, and states that she is over the age of eighteen, suffers no legal disabilities, and the following information is within her personal knowledge and belief:
To all concerned,
May this letter find the committee in grand spirits because I am bursting at the seams to share the good news about my friend Joe H.
I may have been born in Flagstaff, Arizona on October 15th, 1970, but I didn’t just fall off of the Tamale Truck; I know a fine human being when I meet one.
When I met Joe in 2015, I got the immediate impression that this was an honest, authentic, and caring man. I am proud—and a little emotional—to say that in those nine years as a close, family friend and confidante, he has never once proven me wrong.
For you see, in my 53 natural-born years as an American citizen, I have rarely met a man of such integrity and honor. Joe always does the right things for the right reasons, never taking advantage or shortcuts. When they say, ‘look for the helpers,” Joe is the face I seek out in the crowd. I know he will protect his family—and the country he calls home.
When I think of Joe, and his future, I think of a man who is a contributor, a collaborator, and a co-creator in a civil society. I think of a person who upholds his values and has a voice. I think of a human who makes the world a better place, just by being in it. I think of a good father and husband. I think of a model for masculinity, rebranded.
It is my sincere hope that in some small way, this letter contributes to the health and happiness of Joe Hounsou and that the committee considers granting his request. You cannot find a finer sample of “United We Stand.”
Sincerely yours,
Rebecca Layton Gunter
